Inorganic Membranes and Membrane Reactors (SIR) research group

The Inorganic Membranes and Membrane Reactors (SIR) research group at TU/e develops small scale, intensified and integrated systems for the distributed production of chemicals, with low impact and zero waste. They make use of alternative energy sources like light, electricity and bio-based sources, combining these in new reactors capable of continuous, high efficiency production of chemicals. They are committed to high quality research, education, and constant innovation, setting out to meet challenging goals by connecting the talent and passion of people.

PI Prof. Fausto Gallucci

Fausto Gallucci studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Calabria where he obtained his MSc (2001) and PhD (2006) degrees. He performed his PhD research on hydrogen production from methanol in membrane reactors. In 2007, after having held a position as a postdoctoral researcher at the Research Institute on Membrane Technology, Gallucci moved to the research group Fundamentals of Chemical Reaction Engineering at the University of Twente. In 2009 he was appointed Assistant Professor (tenure track) there. The following year, Gallucci moved to the Chemical Process Intensification laboratory (TU/e) where he was appointed Associate Professor in 2015, leading the Multiphase Reactors research effort. In 2018 he was appointed full Professor at the chair 'Inorganic Membranes and Membrane Reactors'. He is the chairman of the Sustainable Process Engineering group

CATART Resarcher Dr. Arash Rahimalimamaghani

Arash Rahimalimamaghani is a researcher on Carbon membranes in TUe, sustainable process engineering research group. In CATART project, he will collaborate to develop and optimize Carbon membranes for hydrogen and carbon monoxide separation. Arash studied Chemical Engineering / Natural gas processing at Petroleum University of Technology (Ahwaz, Iran) where he obtained his Bachelor (July 2016). He studied MSc. Chemical engineering in Eindhoven University of Technology (Eindhoven, the Netherlands) where he graduated in April 2018 with a graduation project of “Development of perovskites membranes for oxygen separation”. He continued his studies as a PhD candidate with a focus on “Development of Carbon membranes” since June 2018 with focus on Gas separation (H₂, CO₂ and O₂), Pervaporation for dehydration and Vapor separation with Carbon molecular Sieve Membranes (CMSMs).

CATART Resarcher Dr. Clara Coiana

Clara Coiana (PhD student at TU/e) studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Salerno (Salerno, Italy) where she obtained her Bachelor (October 2019) and Master degree (April 2022). During the Master, she developed her thesis project and internship at the Eindhoven University of Technology (Eindhoven, The Netherlands, six months). Master’s thesis was titled “Synthesis of nanocomposite and microporous carbon membranes for H₂O separation in Fischer-Tropsch process” . In September 2022, she started a new employment as Ph.D. candidate at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the 'Inorganic Membranes and Membrane Reactors' research group.
