Group description

PhotoGreen Lab and HE-APE beamline teams

The UNIP unit is composed by two different teams, and they will share their expertise in the field of XAS spectroscopy and organic synthesis, respectively. On one side, the physical chemistry unit will perform X-ray absorption spectroscopy experiments in the soft X-ray region (soft-XAS) under operando conditions to get insights into the mechanism of the photocatalytic processes. This will be done at the HE-APE beamline at the ELETTRA synchrotron radiation facility. On the other hand, the organic chemistry unit will explore the possibility to open new directions for the preparation of high-added value compounds. The UNIP unit will also supervise dissemination activities.

PI Assoc. Prof. Davide Ravelli

Davide Ravelli is currently Associate Professor of organic chemistry at the University of Pavia. His main research interests are in the frame of photocatalytic applications in various fields, particularly in organic synthesis. He is highly interested in the discovery of methods for the facile generation of valuable intermediates (mainly organoradicals) under mild conditions. In recent years, he has been visiting scientist in Knowles group at Princeton University (NJ, USA) and in Waldvogel group at Mainz University (Germany). In 2017, he has been the recipient of the Ciamician medal and the Vincenzo Caglioti international award.

CATART Resarcher Prof. Maurizio Fagnoni

Maurizio Fagnoni is currently a Full Professor in Organic Chemistry at the University of Pavia, Italy. His academic and professional background is in organic photochemistry and photocatalysis for the generation of intermediates to be used in organic synthesis and in materials science.

CATART Resarcher Prof. Paolo Ghigna

Paolo Ghigna is currently a Full Professor in Physical Chemistry at the University of Pavia, Italy. His academic and professional background is in the determination of the mechanisms of heterogeneous reactions, particularly by applying Synchrotron Radiation techniques.

CATART Resarcher Sara Stolfi

Sara Stolfi is currently a research fellow at CNR-IOM in Trieste. Her main activity at APE-HE beamline at ELETTRA synchrotron concern the study of heterogeneous catalysis using the in operando conditions X-ray absorption spectroscopy at ambient pressure.

CATART Resarcher Camilla Callegari

Camilla Callegari is currently a PhD student at the University of Pavia, Italy. In 2023 she graduated with a thesis on the use of arylazo sulfones for the functionalization of styrenes induced by visible light, in a collaborative work between PhotoGreen Lab and CNRS. In the same year, Camilla started her PhD within the CATART project, focusing on the use of carbon nitride materials for the development of photocatalytic methodologies.
